Merry Christmas and Plenty of Buns Beatrix Potter

Three Rabbits Eating Plenty of Buns by Beatrix Potter, painted in the early to mid 1890s.

A delightful painting of three bunnies eating, yes, plenty of buns! I love her ingenious use of lettering which spells out the message "A Merry Christmas and Plenty of Buns." And liking good puns the way I do, I also love the play on words (buns like you eat and "buns" as a short form of "bunnies"). Beatrix Potter normally signed her works with her three initials in a lower corner, but she continued her playful use of lettering in this particular painting and placed them on the key tag instead, which I find quite charming.

The reverse (where you write your message and address the card) is done up in the authentic style of the period, but updated a bit for modern use (sorry, you can't send postcard these days for only "one cent domestic, two cents foriegn"!). If you prefer the standard Zazzle postcard back, simply delete the top image.

Please visit my gallery's Beatrix Potter Christmas Collection for another version of the postcard and many matching items.
