"Papillon" Nature-Inspired Butterfly Motif

Nature-inspired Art Nouveau butterfly trails his French name behind him in a fresh and pleasing script. Classy color scheme of viridian (blue green) and chamoisee brown. I love the sense of movement here. This little butterfly has a certain charm you just can't resist. I think it's his little smile and the way he looks at you.

I love these buttons because they're a fun and inexpensive way to change up and bring some "wow factor" to an outfit. Pin it on a tote bag or hat, or use to secure a vintage hankie or scarf to your purse strap or belt. The possibilities are endless!

Available in all sizes. It is not suitable for the square shape, but I have a square button from this same same design available in my gallery.

About the artist: Maurice Pillard-Verneuil studied under Art Nouveau master Eugene Grasset. An early interest in Japanese printmaking blossomed into a passion for Asian art after his visit to Southeast Asia. In love with nature and the natural world, he drew inspiration from plants, flowers, animals, insects and marine life.

About this artwork:This particular design is number 50 from a suite of 60 color lithographs after decorative Art Nouveau devices by Mucha, Verneuil and Auriol found in the book 'Combinaisons Ornementales se Multipliant à l'Infini à l'Aide du Miroir' (Decorative Combinations, Infinitely Multiplied with a Mirror) by George Auriol, pseudonym of Jean-Georges Huyot, journalist, poet, songwriter, painter and engraver. Published in the year 1900 by Librairie Centrale des Beaux Arts, Paris.

It has been carefully and lovingly prepared for print by a professional graphic artist using state-of-the-art software. It is a joy to bring the best art of previous centuries into our own for everyday use and enjoyment. I hope you will enjoy wearing this button as much as I enjoyed working on the design. It took me many hours to restore it to printable perfection, but it was, after all, a labor of love.
