Redoute Red Camellia Botanical Print Postage Stamp

Redoute Red Camellia Botanical Print Postage Stamp Medium Vertical

Pierre-Joseph Redouté Camellia japonica 1827

One of a series of postage stamps to coordinate with the other items in my Redouté Red Camellia Collection.

I just adore this particular plate: lovely, simple, elegant, charming -- everything but the marvelous Camellia scent. Produced by "the Raphael of flowers" Pierre-Joseph Redouté for his sumptuous book of engravings Choix des plus belles Fleurs.

I love the graceful lines, the vibrant greens of the sun-dappled leaves and the rich red of the flower itself. Truly, it's an exquisite bloom. (Well, that's no wonder: the specimen he painted belonged to a French princess!)

Other sizes and styles are available, along with matching note cards, Christmas cards, stickers, postage stamps and more in my gallery's Antique Botanical Prints Collection.
