The Annunciation (detail)1501 by Pinturicchio
Detail of the Archangel Gabriel from Pinturicchio's fresco of the Annunciation at Santa Maria Maggiore in his native Umbrian town of Spello.
The rich Renaissance greens, reds and golds of Gabriel's robes are in vivid contrast to the more muted tones of the elaborate architectural details in the background. The traditional lilies held in Gabriel's hand are particularly graceful and finely done.
Perfect at Christmas time, beautiful and tasteful year round.
Matching note cards, Christmas cards, postcards, stickers and more are available in my gallery's Angels Collection.
